I need to define my sound more and balance things between instruments. It's a process...Some interesting pieces on Sun.
More to come....

New project tentatively titled, The Hadron 4, began the assembly process last weekend. Results are on the Frequencies Page.
A little chaotic, but hey...this is Improv folks! Mostly trying to see what fits and where. We go for it again on 11/28. We should have a better recording setup than my Canon PowerShot camera mic. Plus, now that we are a bit familiar with each other, I think we can relax a bit and find common intentions. Whatever it is, I'll post. M Open Studios Hartford was fantastic! The day was Sunny and pleasant. The light at Artspace was perfect for viewing art. The music was varied and constant. I met a lot of nice people and saw a lot of beautiful paintings, sculptures, and performers. I worked well alongside Tony Oliveras's Statue Dancing. Although a huge pillar obstructed my sight line, I knew what he was doing, and rolled with it. Quite a few people said it was the highlight of the day for them. I know it was for me.
The day continued at Billings Forge, where I had the opportunity to work with Dawn Cook, guitarist/songwriter/singer from Zenos Eros. After Dawn did a few songs, we had a brief improv session, after which i switched gears and started doing a batch of acoustic songs. Me Mistake! My puny little PA was swallowed up by the Forge and the loud conversations throughout the room. At that point, knowing I pretty much sounded like shit, I pushed forward taking on a more distorted approach. So, It sounded awful, but I had fun anyway. Since no one was relieving me, I switched back to a more soundscapey mode and stayed in the background till they started to close up. Afterwards, K and I drove back to Oxford and stepped out to go to the Farm Appreciation Dinner at the Grange Hall in town. They had played an Ambient composition of mine earlier, that I had prepared for them called Farmix. I'm told it went over very well. So... 3 gigs in one day! Well...sorta. I Play Guitar. Children Play. People Play...... Sports, Games, Movies, Musical Instruments....In some cases they are a distraction. In others, the main attraction. When you look at the damage out there that we continue to do to ourselves, you have to wonder...where is the Play? There is a novel I read back in the 70's called Seth Speaks. In it, a woman speaks to an ancient entity known as Seth through a Channeling process, and in the course of a few books, interviews this entity. (By the way, this is a true story). I've forgotten most of it over the years, but it was enlightening on many levels. At it's most basic, Seth delivers that elusive "secret of life" in one word....Yep, you guessed it.
The word Play had such a powerful and broad reaching scope to it, that I've kept it with me all my life. Quite simply, IT RULES! Or rather, it should rule. Most of the problems in the world today can by solved using the applications of Play. Seth alluded to this Idea a number of times. Play has been my musical approach over the years, and I hope to continue for some time to come. I will be updating this site and adding more content as quickly as possible. Music, Pics, Videos, possibly a Film down the line. All the fun stuff I can pack in here. I Welcome and thank you for visiting my site. Now...lets PLAY! Martin |
